Dan Breckinridge Moore won two Alice Niles Walker
Art Prizes at Woodberry Forest School in Orange, Virginia. He
graduated from Washington and Lee University with a BA in History
of Fine Art and was a Fulbright Fellowship candidate. He studied
with Abraham Rattner in graduate school and later attended the
Arts Student’s League in New York City, where he enrolled in classes
taught by Robert Beverly Hale (anatomy), George Grosz (drawing)
and Robert Philip and Ivan Olinski (portraiture).
Following his training in New York, Dan taught Fresco painting
at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Skowhegan,
Maine. He went to France and studied at the Centre des Arts Sacre
in Paris, taught at the Academie Furstenburg and worked as a licensed
copyist in the Musee de Louvre. Dan has lived in Purcellville
since 2001.
