Artist's Statement
As a mixed media artist, I am deeply inspired by the essence of nature—its geometry, patterns, colors, and textures. From childhood, nature has been my refuge, a place for contemplation and connection I feel when surrounded by its splendor. It is this profound personal bond and the childlike awe for our natural world that I aim to convey to others, inspiring them to value and protect the environment that is so vital to us all. My artwork, crafted with beeswax paint, fire, and mixed media, enables me to capture my interpretation of the vivid color, dramatic textures, and luminosity present in nature. With a blowtorch in hand, guided by my artistic instinct, I carve, scrape, and mold the wax into semi-abstract representations of landscapes, waterways, and other natural vistas. The meticulous application of color and texture in my work invites the observer to delve into the concealed layers of materials, fostering a sense of personal discovery.
This encaustic painting beautifully captures the serene and ethereal essence of the Potomac River as it winds through the picturesque Virginia countryside. Mixed media includes encaustic wax, India ink, wax pencil, and oil stick.

Encaustic
