Artist's Statement
Mark Paul Thomas does traditional “straight” black and white analog photography. Working exclusively with an 8X10 large format camera, all work is done by myself including all processing and printing in my dark room. My most recent work has evolved into the Platinum/Palladium process. To me, it is the finest image one can try and master. Although I respect the digital movement for photography and admire a great deal of today’s work, I still feel analog photography, in particular that with large sheet film, is incomparable. Film and all of its delicacies, the craft of exposure and development, and the art of printing represents all that extends beyond ones image capturing composition. Subject matter is everything from urban studies, landscapes, agriculture and portraiture.
