Artist's Statement
Ethan Samaha delves into light as a material through minimalist installations, with its intricacies and nuance to navigate architectural spaces. Light being the occupant of space, illuminating and concealing with the presence and absence of light. Fascinated with the interplay of time, space, and perception, he aims to shape our understanding of light as a material through innate curiosity and perpetual questioning.
Leveraging both light and pigment color theory, he seeks dynamic blends of colors that are both pleasurable and repulsive to the human eye. The duality presented in dramatic saturated environments and their subdued counterparts challenges individuals’ understanding of light and space. His work extends an invitation to explore the complex, yet intricate nuances of light within space.
