Artist's Statement
Nancy Ramsey sees art as an exploration and investigates various ways to represent nature alongside man-made structures and the human form in her abstract paintings. She approaches art as an experiment, beginning much of her work through studying maps or en plein air and exploring ways to represent the world. Nancy builds up and cuts into layers of paint material back in the studio as she melds the images in her world with those in her mind to create a satisfying finished product. The resulting abstract paintings are vibrant and complex, featuring familiar elements alongside others that are more abstract.
